Antyesti Sanskar (Last Rites) is the last sanskar of a human being as suggested in the Hindu religion. After this, there is no sanskar or ritual left for any human being. A dead body needs to be disposed of in all religions. Arya Samaj does so by burning the dead body on a wood pyre by offering a good quantity of Ghee and Havan Samgri. The process is performed like a Yagya along with chanting of selected Ved Mantras for this Antyesti Sanskar.

Arya Samaj believes that every dead body of a human being should be destroyed by burning in this way because all other methods of disposal, like burial in the ground or disposal in a river, cause pollution and contamination to the environment. In the process of burning when the ghee and Samgri is burnt in good quantity, it takes care of the bad smell and also of other ill effects. Even without ghee and samgri, the better option is always burning a dead body.

The house of the deceased should be purified by performing Yagya in the house. It is right to collect the leftover bone that remains from the place of burning but it is futile to travel to rivers to dispose of the same. It pollutes the rivers only.
Various post-death rituals like dashgatra, vaitarni crossing, and the donations involved with these to the so-called religious priests are meaningless as per Arya Samaj. Arya Samaj strongly believes that once a person dies, no one on earth can reach him by doing whatsoever rituals.

Even the Antyesti Sanskar, which is performed with Ved Mantras is a way of prayer to Ishvar by the people attending the Antyeshti to bless the relived soul by giving it the Moksha; or to grant the soul next birth in better body and conditions. The family members of the deceased should follow the good deeds of the deceased and further his good intentions and ambitions.

Movement of the soul after death

One nature of the soul is to enjoy. He needs pleasure. Enjoyment can be found in two places, first with God who is the storehouse of bliss, and second is with nature. It is determined on the deeds of the births of the soul’s previous birth and the justice system is that of God. When the soul goes to God to attain bliss, it is called Moksha, the time of which is eternal, but when the soul comes back to nature to attain bliss, then it has to obtain a special means i.e. Yoni. Even near nature, the soul has to come in two forms, first and real. Sthawar means standing in a place like a tree etc. and movable that can move like humans, animals, etc.

How many days does it take for the soul to get a new body?

This question is highly prevalent but not true because no one knows whether the soul will get the body again. God is going to know and create all three things. Just like death is predetermined, similarly, life after death is predetermined. That is why in the answer to this question inside the Vedas, the sage says that after death the soul does not take any time to get a new body.

Vedic funeral rituals only 4 days

Pandit for Last funeral rites

According to the Vedic process, all the processes that take place after death are completed in 4 days. In which on the first day there is a provision to merge the body received from nature into nature and after that there is a provision for worshiping the soul in different ways for 3 days, the details of which are being given below in order.

1st Day Cremation

When a loved one dies, the family should first bathe the dead body with pure water. If it is not possible to take a bath, then wash the entire body with lukewarm water with a cotton cloth. After bathing or purifying, Lay the dead body of a mat laying on the ground on that mat, make sure that the head of the dead body is in the north and feet in the south direction.

Take 250 grams of sandalwood powder and make a paste. Apply to paste well on the deceased’s entire body. all over the body and then decorate it with beautiful clothes. After completing the process of Ganga water basil in the mouth and bring it to the death Saiya. Even here, the head of the dead body is in the north and the legs are in the south direction. Tie the dead body well with ropes so that there is no problem during the journey. After trying it, all the family members and other people present, take flowers and garlands in their hands and offer a wreath on the dead body praying for peace and salvation of the divine soul from God the Father. Reciting the Gayatri mantra starts the last journey.

After reaching the crematorium, Pandit Ji will complete the process of cremation. Follow the instructions of Pandit Ji and duly complete the funeral procession with ghee and ingredients through Vedic mantras.

After the final method process, before sunset on the same day, put a photo of a dead person in the house, whose face is on the south side, put a white cloth on a table, and put a big lamp in it with ghee and light the lamp. This lamp will be ignited for four days regularly.

Cremation day puja samagri list

On the day the process of Mukhagni will be done, you will have to make arrangements for the following materials.:

1- 5 kg cow ghee
2 – 250gm sandalwood powder.
3- 100 gm camphor and Gangajal.
4- A bundle of sandalwood ( Pencil type )
5- Open flowers and flower garlands for Puspajali.

If the process of Agni Sanskar is done on electric then the quantity of ghee will be 1kg and the quantity of camphor will be 50gm.

All the puja material given below will be found at the place where you get the funeral worship material-

Bamboo, a small pot of mud laying on it, A big clay pot and a small pot, dry cow dung, shroud cloth and rope for tying saiyya, etc. will be taken separately from the shop.

Note-
Those who perform the liturgical process will have to wear white dhoti and baniyaan or white kurta and pajamas.

2nd Day Shanti Path Havan

After death, there is a provision of only one worship for the body in the scriptures, which in the first day’s worship, we returned the divine body which was given by the nature to the soul to get pleasure from this nature, by performing funeral rites. . Even if we had not done this, nature would have included that body in itself. Because it is the rule of creation that the thing from where it is made, in the end it merges again. The body was a part of nature, therefore it merged in it, but the soul is a part of God, that is why the soul moves forward on the path to attain God.

On the second day, all the members of the family pray to God by providing sacrifices in the Yagya, the divine mantras of the Vedas, in which peace, salvation and salvation of the soul have been wished through Yagya, a special means of worshiping God mentioned in the Vedas. Because only God knows where and in what form that divine soul is today after leaving the body. And after the Yajna, the details related to death in religious scriptures like Vedas, Darshans, Upanishads, Bhagwat Gita, Ramayana etc. are heard by the Panditji to the family members in the form of satsang.

3rd Day Shuddhi Puja Havan

According to the scriptures, Sutak is used in both the stages of birth and death. At the time of birth he was named Sutak and at the time of death he was named Patak. Shuddhi Puja is performed to remove these sutak. At the time of cremation after death, many other small creatures also get burnt in the fire and the environment also becomes impure. That’s why we and our family also feel the blame for all this. We make atonement by performing Shuddhi Puja so that no harm is done to us or our family by that fault.

There is also a scientific basis for performing Shuddhi Puja. After the soul leaves the body, the dead body slowly starts to decompose. Where the dead body is kept, millions of microscopic germs and negative energy from the dead body start spreading in the surrounding environment. Family members stay around the dead body and often the dead body is kept at home. That’s why it has the most effect on the environment of the house and the family members. The biggest effect of negative energy is on the human mind. The longer the dead body is kept in the house, the more the effect of microscopic germs and negative energy coming out of it increases. That is why the family has been instructed in the scriptures to perform the cremation as soon as possible.

In ancient times, houses were made of mud, that is why on the day of Shuddhi Puja, the whole house was smeared with cow dung and sprinkled with Ganges water. Both these processes destroy the microscopic germs spread in the house. Along with this, mundan karma and nail cutting also shows this purity. Because these microscopic germs can remain safe for a long time in the hair and nails.

In the Vedic process, scholars believe that all the family members should perform yagya in the house for at least three days to protect the house and family from the side effects of micro germs and negative energy emanating from the dead body. By performing Yagya even the subtle germs are destroyed and the positive energy emanating from the Yagya destroys the negative energy.

4th Day Dev Puja

None of us knows where and in what form the soul is after leaving the body. If anyone knows, it is God. But today, wherever the soul is, it must be wishing for the welfare of its family. The main purpose of the fourth day’s worship is to wish for the welfare of the family. Those divine mantras of the Vedas are sacrificed in the Yajna, in which mantras have been wished for the welfare of the family. May God’s grace always be on the family, may there be no crisis on the family, may the family members recover from this sad hour soon, may the family members always be ready to complete the unfinished tasks of the loved one who has passed away. This kind of wish is done through worship.

Today is the last day of worship. The process of Vedic Pindadan, Pagdi vidhi, Pushpanjali etc. is done. On this day, other acquaintances of the family are also invited to express their condolences and lay wreaths at this sad time. After the puja, Pandit ji is offered food. After the meal, donations, and dakshina are offered to the Panditji.

Other important procedure after death

Death Rituals

By the way, many procedures or customs related to the funeral are prevalent in society. But it is a matter of thinking how much all these have to do with the religious scriptures. In this regard, from whom you will take information, whether it is a priest or an elderly member of your family. Everyone will give you an example of their own tradition and customs. But it is very difficult to find out what is the truth. Here we have tried to answer some important questions related to the funeral, which will surely help you in getting you closer to the truth.

  • Asthi visarjan
People often do osteogenesis in the Ganges river or its tributaries and the sea etc. But it is best to do whatever is scriptural inside the ground. Due to bone immersion in rivers, the water of the rivers gets polluted. If the river is polluted, it will not be beneficial for humans and other organisms. While we always do such work that this nature always remains welfare for us. Therefore, if possible, you can perform bone immersion by digging a pit on your land at your ancestral house, duly performing the puja process and plant a beautiful tree at the same place. Because of your attachment to that tree forever, you will take special care in the complete construction of that tree. Where this tree will grow and become beneficial for millions of people, then for you it will be the symbol of your beloved and the center of affection. This will always be helpful in connecting your future generations with the ancestral place of your ancestors for this reason and your ancestral wealth will always be protected.
  • Pindadan and Tarpan
Pindadan and tarpan are provided as the soul are liberated. Whereas the soul has been freed itself. See, after death and after the fire ceremony there is no worship for the body because everyone knows that the body was dedicated to the fire which was destroyed by burning. Now the remaining soul that no one knows is said now. That is why whatever fanaticism and superstitions in this worship process were made for the soul itself. When the Vedas say that as soon as the soul leaves a body, it immediately gets new life on the basis of its deeds which are pre-planned by God, then for whom is the Pind Daan. Pindadaan is for the soul and the soul can acquire anything or substance-related to nature only if it has any means. Without means, she cannot get anything or substance-related to nature. If you have destroyed the means then why this Pinddan, Sayadan, Jalanjali, Tarapan.
  • Brahmins Bhojan
The Vedas are opposed to the multi-dimensional food that occurs after death. Today, the intellectual class of our society is also moving forward in protest against this evil practice in the name of religion. After death, there is no mention of multi-Brahmin food anywhere. If there was a mention somewhere, a number of them would have been written and everyone would have served food to the Brahmins on the basis of that number. But here it is often seen that some 5, 11, 13, 21, etc. are giving food to Brahmins according to their ability. After the death, people who do multi-Brahman food after realizing that the deceased soul will get merit from this work, I request that thousand times more virtue than multi-Brahman food, you also donate food for food in this orphaned ashram, old age home, cowshed, etc. You can attain merit by providing, which is also scriptural.
